Website vs Market: Compare Traffic Growth in a Click
April 10, 2020
We’re excited to present a new feature in SEMrush Market Explorer that allows you to broaden your range of opportunities when analyzing the competitive market, and also choose the best ways to promote your business.
Please welcome a special new device in your own market research laboratory — the Domain vs Market: Growth by Sources widget. It can be found in the Market Explorer Overview report.
What’s the new feature for?
As the name suggests, this feature allows you to compare the growth of an analyzed company’s website traffic with the market as a whole by different acquisition channels. It can help you highlight the distribution of marketing budgets and other resources that your competitors are capitalizing on.
The graph compares the average market growth in a certain channel with the company’s growth in a certain channel over a chosen period of time.
For example, in this graph, we see that HelloFresh grows much faster than the market average in the Referral channel, which suggests that HelloFresh has been working actively on co-marking and affiliate relationships over the past six months. To take a closer look at the referral traffic of HelloFresh, feel free to check out Traffic Sources in Traffic Analytics. HelloFresh has also grown faster than the market average in the Social channel, which suggests that HelloFresh has been investing in building social media communities as well as in social media ads. To take a closer look at HelloFresh’s social media presence, feel free to check our Social Media Tracker (it’s free for the month of April).
Spotting Growth Variations
This feature comes in handy for competitor benchmarking. Being able to compare competitors with the market average will help you spot growth differences that can then be further researched with the Competitive Research Toolkit.
Exploring these variations is important for building a marketing strategy to promote your own business. Seeing competitors’ ups and downs is sure to help you to adopt winning strategies, as well as avoid the same failures.
To spot the growth variations of different market players, click on a company of interest in the Share of Visits widget. Clicking through companies will build a Domain vs Market: Growth by Sources widget for each of them.
Here’s your perfect workflow for spotting variations in competitors’ growth:
